Join SecureRF and learn about the challenges associated with securing constrained devices and what design engineers should consider when trying to overcome them.

The small, low-resource devices—such as wireless sensors, microcontrollers, FPGAs, ASICs, and passive tags—comprising the Internet of Things (IoT) have inherent limitations that make securing them a challenge. Most require authentication and data protection but don’t have the computing and memory resources to incorporate contemporary security solutions with acceptable runtimes and resource allocation. In this webinar, Louis Parks (CEO, SecureRF) and Derek Atkins (CTO, SecureRF) discuss the multiple aspects of providing security for small devices.

You will learn what works, what doesn't work, why security is difficult, how to overcome security-related challenges, and what design engineers should consider when planning the security of their devices.

Key topics to be covered:

  • An overview of available IoT security solutions
  • Why security is seldom implemented in IoT devices
  • The challenges of securing low-resource devices in the IoT
  • The "lowest common-denominator" security approach - and a better alternative
  • Future-proofing devices through upgradability and quantum-resistance
  • The difference between industrial and consumer IoT threats
  • How to budget for securing devices

Speakers

Louis Parks, Chief Executive Officer, SecureRF
Mr. Parks is a co-founder of SecureRF, and serves as its President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Parks has consulted to Homeland Security on U.S. electronic border initiatives and has served as a resource to the White House on security issues related to the new electronic passports and passport cards. He is on the North American Board of AIM, the Association for Automatic Identification and Mobility, and is the former chairman of its RFID Experts Group (REG).

Derek Atkins, Chief Technology Officer, SecureRF

Mr. Atkins specializes in architecting, designing, developing, and deploying network and systems security applications. He serves on the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the internet standardization body. As a member of the IETF, he was instrumental in the design and standardization of several major internet protocols, including the OpenPGP and Instant Messaging protocols. He currently serves as chairman of the Open Web Authorization (Oauth) Working Group, and serves on the IETF Security Directorate. Mr. Atkins also served as President of IHTFP Consulting, Inc., an Atlanta-based consulting firm he founded in 2001, which provided internet and computer system security services.
