AIM: What's In A Name?
Keeping pace with the changing landscape of AIDC and Mobile IT
Those with long memories might remember that AIM
originally stood for "automatic identification manufacturers". Subsequently,
as more vendors of services and products that were not manufacturers joined,
AIM became just an acronym that no longer stood for anything. Most recently, however,
it was repurposed to mean "automatic identification and mobility".
Why the changes to the meaning of the
association's name? Because it reflected the changing landscape of the
technologies and services available. And the association's current designation
could not be more appropriate.
