RFID: Is RFID "Choking" On Its Own Success?
The proliferation of wireless communications devices
may be threatening to overwhelm existing spectrum allocations.
There are discussions in Europe
to determine whether RFID and "short range devices" (SRDs) should be
assigned their own exclusive, but limited, parts of the current UHF spectrum.
At the same time, there is also discussion about the potential need to allocate
new areas of yet-unspecified radio spectrum to allow expansion of HF and UHF
RFID systems as well as other RF systems. The outcome of these deliberations
will likely influence RF spectrum allocations around the world.
