Detroit Build Book Application Case Study
2016 AIM Case Study Competition Winner | IoT
Presented by Herbert Hohmann, Sr. Director Manufacturing Solutions | Omni-ID
Detroit, a division of Daimler, sought to realize greater production efficiency by diversifying manufacturing lines to handle a greater variety of product types. Goal: improve engine assembly line productivity & achieve environmental goals by phasing out paperwork instructions. Attendees learned:
· Real time build book updates can be made and communicated to the line. Ability to capture data real time and dynamically change operations to optimize workflow efficiencies & uptime. Reduces plants environmental footprint by eliminating approximately 7 million pieces of paper per year.
· Re-purposed individual responsible for paper-based document control to a more productive activity. ProVIEW hardware and software plugs seemlessly into exiting production environment. Driver of Industrial IoT.
· Due to the success of this program Detroit & corporate Daimler are expanding ProVIEW to other lines of production such as truck axles and transmissions as a replacement for paper build books and to automate parts replenishment.
